Hypnotic

This movie is essentially an attempt to merge together two masterpieces: Shutter Island and Inception.

On paper this description might sound like a brilliant idea... 💡

Unfortunately those two masterpieces were made by Legendary directors Scorsese and Nolan. 👑

Hypnotic has neither one of them, it has Robert Rodriguez. He directed really good movies like Sin City and Desperados but had some fails like Alita... 👀

He also had to work with a undoubtedly rushed script that resulted into a mess of fast and emotionless character development.😐

I'd like to think that he did his best, although it's obvious he didn't.😂

Same goes for Affleck, I expected a little more from him, especially on the emotional scenes, it felt like he was there just because he was paid (which is probably true) 🙂

From the trailer (it's nice by the way)I was tricked into thinking that this movie was "just" a simple cop chases really smart bad guy situation, and I was super ok with it. Unfortunately I was wrong...😂

I'm reviewing this movie now (7th July) because in Italy it was released yesterday, I know that in the us it premiered a while ago.

It has a budget of $56 million plus what I can only assume on the low end is 10M in marketing, it's sitting at 6 at the moment...

How Would I Fix It ?

• Throw away the entire script and rewrite it like a normal "cop chases smart and powerful bad guy" plot. Take inspiration from the first Sherlock Holmes with RDJ. If they did that the movie might've had a shot at being good.😆
