John Wick Chapter 4

🖋Masterclass in action movies

I was instantly shocked by the amazing shots and light games that Chad Stahelsky pulled off. Beautiful cities: from New York to Japan to Berlin to end up under the Arc De Triomphe.

Lot of interesting side characters. That maybe steal the spotlight from John at times. Great actors that, even if they had a brief role, were capable of delivering a great performance.

While watching, i could not shake off myself the feeling that they were more focused on expanding the world around John instead of focusing on him. Probably the studio saw the opportunity to continue to milk the franchise and, of course,

jumped on it. As it happens in many others these days that start really strong and end up in the toilet (marvel and star wars just to name two). They're clearly setting up for future TV shows and maybe future films and, if they are done properly, i certainly can see the appeal for the public to see more of it from other points of view, different than babayaga's.

The usual and cool John wick one liners were always on point. I enjoyed all the callbacks to the previous movies. There were a lot.

Really, really stunning action scenes. A joy for the eyes, almost hard to follow at times, but always choreographed perfectly. And that says a lot. And that's something that no other movie does, at least in this way. The only series I can think of that comes close to this level is Warrior. The one with Andrew Koji.

A real problem is the amount of incidents that John has during the movie because there's a LOT. And i mean a LOT of car incidents, a lot of falling and lots of bullets that Keanu takes. After a while you can’t help but wonder if he’s made of steel, or at least carbon fiber.

A lot of fun seeing Scott Adkins in a fat suit, those of you who know him also know that he has worked a lot to get a respected name in the action genre so, without spoilers, you might guess where this is going…

Donnie Yen has a decent story arc. With, in my opinion, predictable twists. His character, Caine, reminded me a lot of someone from hell’s kitchen…

the main villain, The Marquis, feels a little like an entitled, spoiled kid(believe me i have some familiarity with these kind of people). Perhaps it's not a perfect antagonist for John. However, it works. In terms of the story is not that dumb of a character. It could've been a little stronger/smarter in my opinion and the movie would've benefitted a lot from it.

Shots composition, done properly, enabled to set the proper tone for each character. Adding gravitas and power to them.

Awesome soundtrack. Capable to add flavor to every scene. The trailer inted at a great soundtrack with “Got Ur Self A Gun” – Nas. The movie stepped it up a notch and used a wide variety of great tracks.

Wide variety: went from dubstep to classical music to rock, always on point and in sync with the action.

If you liked the third one, I don't see why you shouldn't like this one. I would recommend it to everyone who's a fan of action movies even if you didn't see the previous instalments.

Definetly go for it if you have a free slot in this weekend.
