Killer Heat

😕boringly predictable

That's a classic "private investigator murder" story, generally speaking I'm a great fan of this stuff.

However this time, despite the pretty good cast, we are presented with a bad adaptation of a book.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a really good actor, this time tho, it doesn't really fit the role.

They tried to present him as a rough and smart private investigator, who left the police force and his detective role because of a bad breakup with his wife, and now is drinking his problems away solving cases to alleviate the pains of his past.

Shailene Woodley is almost the same story, another really good actress stuck in a mediocre (at best) role. She interprets the wife of the young billionaire and she's the one that hires the detective to uncover the mysterious death of her brother-in-law.

The whole story is easily predictable from the beginning and, despite all the goodwill in the world, our investigator is too light and easygoing to credibly pass as a rough alcoholic.

Since it's on Prime, I can almost recommend it to someone who just wants to disconnect the brain for two hours and watch something.

How Would I Fix It ?

  • The best move here is to recast the detective with someone that is able to convey a real sense of desperation to the character, restructure the script to avoid all the times that he's forcing his hand to look smart and maybe change the location of the story.
