Love Again

💑Kinda Bad

I'm a sucker for rom-coms. Period.

So, naturally, you expect me to be more forgiving when i review this type of movies.

And i usually am. This time tho, I'm afraid, that the movie is so poorly made that i have to really dig deep to find something good about it.

So let's start from the negatives:

Sam heughan has the emotional range of a rock, i don't think he was a good cast for the main role, especially considering that the script required a half miracle from the actors to make it work. Priyanka Chopra was good at times, unfortunately not enough to carry all the movie on her back.

In the more emotional scenes, all of a sudden the camera starts to spin🤣. I know that it sounds wierd but it's really awful to watch. it almost feel like they were shot with a giroscorpe.

Celine's role is like the psychologist for the two protagonists, not a bad idea per se, Just poorly structured and executed. She comes across more like a plot mover than a useful character.

Of course the soundtrack is almost entirely made by her songs. They are great songs, i cannot say something bad about them.

Lastly the script fluctuates between acceptable and horrible dialogues, especially bad in the male department. He comes across as a dumb empty protagonist 🤔

Enough bad stuff, i don't like to rant about the problems as much as you would think. I prefer to offer solutions to them, so 👇

How Would I Fix It ?

This movie, however, poses a really good question:

Is it possible to love someone even after you lose the love of your life?

When it's phrased like that the answer is clearly no. Because the "love of your life" necessarily excludes other possibilities.

Still, we can say that life goes on and it forces people to deal with the pain associated with loss and find someone else. The movie could try to answer to this incredibly difficult question, and I'm sure that in doing so the script would naturally come out as compelling as they get.

I'm trying to say that at the core of a good movie there usually is a hard problem (that can be many things and be interpreted in many ways )

So let's start with that, we can go further improve by recasting the male lead with someone in the same sphere but more suited for the role.

Options can be:

-Tom Hopper (Umbrella Academy ☂️)

-Sam Claflin (Me Before You 🧑‍🦽)

-Nicholas Hoult (The Menu 🍽️ )

Essentially you need someone able to exude loneliness and hope. Not an easy task, so he needs to be really good.

Once we have done this things we should end up with a heartbreaking story that concludes with an hopeful answer to our central question.

Vote: 3/10
